Here’s the details of operation. The Captain steps into the cockpit. His seat is presently positioned all the way back and to the left to allow for easy access. He takes the seat and with the toggle switch on the (right side) of the seat he drives the seat to the right and forward to come closer to the control column. The seat actually has a cutout between his legs so as during flight he can pull back on the yoke and the column has room to come all the way back.
As an Inspector my job is to check the installation. The mounting/install is good. I’m in the Captain’s seat and I reach for the toggle switch and realize, no switch, “oh here it is on the left side”. I toggle forward and the seat moves but doesn’t center with the control column. At that moment it’s easy to realize each seat was installed in the wrong position. This seat belonged in the Copilots position, and the Copilots in the Captains. “You’ve gotta to be kidding”.
