So I’d say it’s safe to say that this Baby Groot and Baby Yoda shirt is still groot. Just that since he’s so very tiny I’m guessing it causes him to revert a certain amount until he can regrow back to his former glory. I’m fairly sure that it is the same entity and not offspring. Rocket didn’t find a seed or anything that would suggest offspring, he found a limb that he figured would regrow. The problem here is the fact that plants don’t have a consciousness. Once we create a character who has consciousness, we get into the question of what it means to be you.

I’m okay with Baby Groot and Baby Yoda shirt being a clone, offspring, or whatever else. That doesn’t bother me. The only thing I want is for it to be the same Groot. As long as it is the same mind, I don’t care if he’s a sapling or not. Even though it’s not the same Groot, the capacity of language and expression for their species is the same. Baby Groot now much older will still only ever sound like he’s saying the phrase I am Groot to those who don’t speak the language, but given that Rocket does and that his final words before dusting where Dad I’m fairly sure it was Rocking in some form or another.
